GENERAL INFORMATION

RHPPS CATASTROPHEE – aka Catwoman, Cat or Big Mumma.

Foaled 23.01.2001 Cat is a powerhouse grey mare standing at 16.2hh, she is by imported stallion Starlights Cowsmart (IMP) aka Captain. Even though Captain was out of a full sister to Smart Little Lena, who was only 13.3 hands, Dox Cow Smart was a decent 14.2 hands and looked nothing like her brother. Cat is out of a Thoroughbred mare named Hey Beni (DEC) who was only around 14.3hh. Before we came to purchase Cat in 2009, she had won and placed in 2 Hand and Snaffle Bit Cutting competitions and had started in Campdrafting.

We continued to campaign Cat in Campdrafting, unfortunately in 2010 (?), wild/feral dogs put her through a fence on our property at the time severely gashing her offside shoulder at the front, down her leg and other numerous lacerations. After the gash had healed significantly and she was comfortable again, we bred her to Anuska Park Lethal Acres, a stylish stallion by Acres Destiny (IMP) out of a mare by Lethal Lena (IMP) and from this breeding she had a grey filly, now known as Caribbean Lethal Kitty. After Kitty was weaned, the scarring on her shoulder was then very minimal and we decided to slowly bring her back into work and see how she went.

I had been trying to choose another horse to start training for Barrel Racing, and since Cat was such a strong, fast intelligent mare, I decided to trial her and the rest is what you could call history. In her first year of competition in the Rodeo/Barrel Racing arena’s she competed only 5 times due to my work commitments. In January 2013 after losing my beautiful Open Barrel horse Quirran-Lea Shake N Peppy to a lightning strike, Cat had to step up to the Opens plate in only her second year of competition with very limited training, more often than not Barrel Races and Rodeos were the training, she ran 13 times.

Year 2014 has seen 18 runs for Cat with 15 of those runs being wins or placing in the Open/1st Division. Due to my work commitments, I cannot compete as much as I would like but I have no doubt in my mind this mare has what it takes to become one of the best in the field. Catwoman’s success out of so few outings in 2013/2014 saw her place 10th in the Top Ten AQHA High Point Barrel Racing Horse of the year.

With both Cat sustaining an injury in late 2014 and taking 5 months off and myself sustaining an injury this year (2015), we have had a pretty successful start with Cat winning four 1D events and making her debut on the smallest course she has run yet, in Bundaberg for a 14.06 run.

Cat can be a bit funny sometimes, but I think all great horses like to challenge us occasionally and they like to remind us they’re an individual, I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
